  1. Dear Sir
I have enjoyed your posts but I genuinely fail to understand who are these ‘elites’ you mention. Surely the term isn’t party-partisan?

In my ignorance I describe as ‘elites’ Prince Philip, Tony Abbott, Kevin Rudd, business boards and CEOs, university academics, senior Commonwealth bureaucrats, think tank academics, dotcom entrepreneurs, hedge funds, the former Chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Authority, Cabinet Ministers, any President of the United States, the Emperor of Japan…and as a rule of thumb, anyone in the media earning $1m+ per annum (though the last is utterly arbitrary).
Wouldn’t an alternative term like ‘public intellectual,’ ‘capitalist roader’ or ‘enemy of the people’ be more appropriate?

  2. did you see that the new PM has just appointed an “Assistant Minister for the Republic” in his new cabinet. How can someone have ministerial responsibility for a concept that does not yet exist?
    an alarming development
